Performing Hajj alone, without performing ‘Umrah during the months of Hajj, is called Ifrad Hajj. In this case, one must enter ihram at the miqat with the intention of Hajj only. Upon reaching Makkah, one should perform Tawaf al-Qudum (the arrival tawaf). If desired, sa‘i may also be performed after this tawaf. In that case, sa‘i will not have to be performed again after the obligatory tawaf of Hajj. After Tawaf al-Qudum, one should remain in Makkah in the state of ihram. On 8 Dhul-Hijjah, one should set out for Mina in the same ihram to perform the rites of Hajj. A person performing Ifrad Hajj is not required to slaughter a hady. Therefore, on 10 Dhul-Hijjah, after casting the pebbles, the person performing Ifrad Hajj may shave his head and attain the initial release from ihram.
