The Mosque of Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him)
Taif
The mosque is located in the old part of the city of Taif and is known as the city’s principal historic mosque. Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), the cousin of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and a renowned Companion, spent the final years of his life in Taif and passed away here in 68 AH; he was buried in this area. He was known for his profound knowledge of Qur’anic exegesis and was called “Tarjuman al-Qur’an.” The mosque was renovated and rebuilt in various eras—from the Abbasid period through the Ottoman and Saudi periods. The present structure preserves some features of the old architecture while also incorporating modern expansions.
