Step 4: Shaving the head or trimming the hair

1 min readLast updated August 29, 2026

After completing the sa‘i, shave your head (halq) or trim your hair short; however, shaving is preferable. If you have arrived in Makkah before Hajj and there are not many days left until Hajj, it is preferable to trim your hair short after ‘Umrah so that you can shave it when coming out of ihram for Hajj.

Bear in mind that whether you shave or trim your hair, it must be done from the entire head. Shaving or trimming only a small portion will not suffice. This applies to men.

Women should gather their hair together and cut a fingertip’s length from the ends. In this way, your ‘Umrah will be completed, and what was previously prohibited because of ihram will then become lawful.

May Allah grant us the ability to worship Him according to the manner He has prescribed.

(Do not forget me in your du‘as.)
