1. After the sky has become completely light, set out for Mina before sunrise. After performing the Fajr prayer at Muzdalifah, ‘Umar (ra.) said, “The polytheists would not leave Muzdalifah until the sun had risen. And they would say,

‘O Thabir,[1] be illuminated by the rays of the sun so that we may depart quickly.’ They would not depart before sunrise; however, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) differed from them and departed before sunrise.”[2]

2. Continue towards Mina while reciting the Talbiyah and Takbir. Upon reaching Wadi Muhassir,[3] move a little faster. Nowadays, this has become difficult due to the crowds of people and vehicles. However, make the intention in your heart to follow the Sunnah. If you have the opportunity, try to act upon it.

3. Continue reciting the Talbiyah until you begin throwing pebbles at the large Jamrah. Fadl (ra.) said,

“The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) continued reciting the Talbiyah until just before throwing pebbles at Jamratul ‘Aqabah (the large Jamrah).”[4]

[1]. Thabir is the largest mountain of Makkah, located in Muzdalifah. When the sunlight fell upon that mountain, it could be ascertained that the sun had risen, making it easy to set out for Mina. For this reason, they would call upon Thabir to become illuminated by the rays of the sun.
