What is the ruling on spending the night in Mina?

According to the majority of learned scholars, including those of the Maliki, Shafi‘i, and Hanbali madhhabs, spending the night in Mina is wajib. If it is missed without a valid excuse, a dam must be offered. However, according to the Hanafi madhhab, it is a Sunnah Mu’akkadah. If this Sunnah is missed, no dam is required.
