What Muta’akhkhir (Late-Departing) Pilgrims Should Do on 13 Dhul-Hijjah

1 min readLast updated September 11, 2026

When the ‘Muta’akhkhir’ pilgrims spend the night following the 12th, that is, the night of the 13th, in Mina, they must stone all three Jamarat the next day.

They must spend that night in the remembrance of Allah, because this is the primary purpose of staying in Mina.

The pilgrims’ main task on the 13th is to stone the Jamarat after the sun has passed the meridian. They must perform the stoning in the following manner:

As on the 12th, they must first stone the small Jamarah near Masjid al-Khayf. Following the previously described procedure, they must throw seven pebbles one by one, saying ‘Allahu Akbar’ with each throw. After completing the stoning, they should move slightly aside, face the Qiblah, and make du‘a.

Then they must stone the middle Jamarah. Following the previously described procedure, they must throw seven pebbles one by one, saying ‘Allahu Akbar’ with each throw. After completing the stoning, they should move slightly aside, face the Qiblah, and make du‘a.

Then they must stone the large Jamarah, namely Jamarat al-‘Aqabah. Following the previously described procedure, they must throw seven pebbles one by one, saying ‘Allahu Akbar’ with each throw. After completing the stoning, they must leave this place. There is no du‘a here.

With this, the Muta’akhkhir pilgrims will complete the rites of Hajj. Only the Farewell Tawaf will remain, and that is for those pilgrims who are not residents of Makkah. A detailed discussion of this will follow.
