Historical Places
The birthplace of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (according to tradition)
Makkah
An area on the eastern side of al-Masjid al-Haram, near Mount Safa, which was known by its old name as Shi‘b Banu Hashim. It is traditionally believed that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was born here; however, historians differ regarding the precise identification of the location. The use of the site has changed over the centuries. It currently houses a library called Maktabah Makkah al-Mukarramah, which can be seen from the outside. The building is generally not open to visitors. Visiting this site is not part of any of the rites of Hajj or Umrah.
