Mount Hira is located on the left side of the road from Makkah to Mina. It is 634 metres high. Today, the people of Makkah call it Jabal al-Nur. On this mountain is the cave where the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to worship before his prophethood. It was here, while he was engaged in worship, that the verses of the Qur’an were first revealed. The entrance to this cave is on the northern side. Five people can sit inside it. Its height is moderate. From this mountain, the houses and buildings of Makkah can be seen. Mount Thawr can also be seen. The summit of the mountain resembles a camel’s hump. There is no mountain like Mount Hira in Makkah or anywhere else in the world. It is a unique mountain.
