Although not very large in area, Abu Qubays is one of the most famous mountains of Makkah. This mountain is situated between Shi‘b Abi Talib and Ajyad. At present, the King’s residence stands on it. Ajyad is a prominent mountain of Makkah. It is one of the two hard-rock mountains of Makkah. The other is Mount Qu‘ayqi‘an. Regarding these two mountains, it is mentioned in the hadith that (Allah) says, “O Muhammad, if you wish, I will crush them (the disbelievers) between these two mountains.” The Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, said, “No; rather, I hope that from among their descendants there will arise people who will worship Allah alone.”[1]
