Quba Mosque
Madinah
It is located in the Quba area, approximately three kilometres south of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. During the Hijrah, before entering Madinah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed here for several days and laid the foundation of this mosque—it was the first mosque built in the history of Islam. A large number of Qur’anic commentators have interpreted the mosque mentioned in Surah At-Tawbah as having been founded upon piety as referring to Quba Mosque. While in Madinah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would regularly come here and offer prayer, especially on Saturdays. It is stated in a hadith that if someone purifies himself at home, then comes here and offers prayer, he receives a reward equivalent to that of an Umrah. Having been expanded many times, the present structure is very large and modern.
