The ruling on offering an additional sacrifice besides the hady

1 min readLast updated September 10, 2026

Learned scholars have expressed the opinion that the Hajj hady is sufficient for both the hady and the qurbani. However, if one offers a qurbani, it will be regarded as a voluntary offering. Imam Abu Hanifah (may Allah have mercy on him) opined that if a pilgrim becomes a resident and owns wealth equal to the nisab, it is obligatory upon him to offer a separate qurbani. Although there is considerable debate over whether a pilgrim is a resident or a traveller, in practice, pilgrims are not residents. They spend their time in various places. Moreover, to facilitate the acceptance of their supplications, it is more appropriate for them to remain in the state of a traveller.
