2. The second act: Hady, that is, slaughtering an animal

1 min readLast updated September 10, 2026

Hady is the slaughtering of an animal in the hope of attaining nearness to Allah Most High, as an expression of gratitude for being granted the opportunity to perform Hajj and Umrah in one journey. The blood of the Hady animal must be shed within the Haram area.

The rule is that the Hady should be slaughtered after stoning the large Jamrah. If a person performing Tamattu‘ or Qiran Hajj is not a resident of Makkah, it is wajib for him to slaughter a Hady. For a pilgrim performing Ifrad Hajj, slaughtering a Hady is voluntary or recommended.
