After completing the stoning of the pebbles and the slaughter of the Hady, the next act is to shave the head or shorten the hair. However, shaving is preferable. In the Noble Qur’an, shaving is mentioned first and shortening the hair is mentioned afterward. Allah Ta‘ala says,
﴿مُحَلِّقِينَ رُءُوسَكُمۡ وَمُقَصِّرِينَ﴾ [الفتح: ٢٧]
‘Some of you will shave your heads, and some will shorten your hair.’[1] This shows that shaving the head is preferable to shortening the hair. Shaving the head or shortening the hair is the only means of becoming halal.
