Those who are weak and unable to walk or move about may appoint a representative to stone the Jamarat. The representative must himself be performing Hajj. He will first throw his own pebbles and then throw the pebbles on behalf of the other person.
It is not correct to say that every woman is weak. All the Mothers of the Believers performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. They all threw their own pebbles themselves. Only Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her), because she was heavyset, sought permission to throw the pebbles before Fajr. Even then, she threw her own pebbles herself. Therefore, there is no basis for saying that a representative may be appointed merely because one is a woman. Women should go and throw the pebbles when there is less crowding. The rule is that they should throw their own pebbles themselves. At present, the arrangements for stoning the Jamarat are excellent. As a result, any pilgrim can easily throw the pebbles. There is no need for a person who is able to walk or move about to appoint a representative.
